I was helping students from my community college think about research projects a few months ago, and when I heard that they were interested in molecular biology, I suggested they start a biofoundry. Here are some of the suggestions I threw their way. Cover art is a laboratory fallacy that happens in science all the time.
I love reading the origin stories of pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies (and scientists too!) These are some highly recommended books for anyone interested in the discovery process. Caustic cover art is one of my favorite quotes from Joshua Boger in “The Billion Dollar Molecule” by Barry Werth.
I’ve made ALOT of breakthroughs in my research these past few months; here is a short update on a paper we submitted. More updates on molecular biology coming soon! Cover art is a collage of figures from the paper.
I wanted to use this post to share the method I used to pre-emptively protect genes from degradation after RNA synthesis. Its not a perfect replacement for cloning, but if you’re short on time and need to protect you transcription products from RNAse degradation, this technique might be exactly what you need.
